Jebet, Beetler Post Top-20 Times for Chargers at WIU Early Bird

The Carl Sandburg College cross country team kicked off its season Friday evening at the WIU Early Bird at Spring Lake Park.
Nancy Jebet (Eldoret, Kenya/Tulwo) and Anastasia Beetler (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) each posted top-20 finishes in the women’s 4-kilometer race to lead the Chargers, who were the only community college team in the field that also included Western Illinois, Bradley and Webster.
Jebet crossed the line in eighth place at 15 minutes, 20 seconds, and Beetler was 17th in 16:41. Other women’s runners for the Chargers were:
- Annadoria Ledbetter (Oneida, Ill./ROWVA) 19:31, 25th
- Carlie Barman (Woodhull, Ill./AlWood) 19:42, 26th
- Karen Tanui (Kenya) 21:52, 27th
- Jade Mathis (New Windsor, Ill./Sherrard) 24:47, 29th
- Annie Sholl (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) 25:07, 30th
Freshman Freeman Shoemaker (Oquawka, Ill./West Central) led Sandburg in the 6K men’s race with a 37th-place finish in 22:15. The men competed against WIU, Bradley, Webster and Augustana, finishing fifth. Other Chargers times on the men’s side were:
- Dixon Kiptoo (Eldoret, Kenya/Kipsangui) 22:25, 43rd
- Kevin White (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) 24:12, 49th
- Nathan Cutts (Oneida, Ill./ROWVA) 25:48, 53rd
- Cameron Woodbury (Cambridge, Ill./Cambridge) 26:16, 54th
- Preston Hook (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) 28:47, 55th
Sandburg continues its season with the Bradley Intercollegiate on Sept. 14 at Detweiller Park in Peoria. The women’s race begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s race at 5:45 p.m.
